Schools That Can is a national organization of high performing urban schools. The group came to Milwaukee last year and began working with a small number of schools to help them improve. Northwest Lutheran is one of those schools. High performing urban schools throughout the country share several common characteristics; a no excuses culture combining love and discipline, strong leadership, increased time on task, relentlessly high expectations, passionate and effective teachers, a "whatever it takes" mentality, and a data-driven culture that closely tracks student learning. STC has assigned an advisor to the school to help Principal Krause and the teachers implement these initiatives which will result in improved student achievement in reading, math and other subjects. Northwest Lutheran is proud to be working with STC and for the opportunity to gain membership in the organization.
