Welcome to the 5th grade!!!!!

Our school theme this year is "Hooked on Jesus".

5th Grade Teachers:

  Mrs. Atkinson (mornings) and Mrs. Klemp (afternoons)  Classes and teachers for 5th grade also include:  Mrs. Krause (Choir and Choir chimes)  Mrs. Zimdars (Art) Mrs. Heiden (Computer)  Mrs. Voigt (PE and Health)

HOMEWORK

Memory Work:  Books of the the Old Testament Genesis-Esther Due Friday August 28th  Look for a sheet with the Memory work to come home the first day of school for the months of August and September

Accelerated Reader:  Students will be reading books that they select from our library or other sources and reading them at school and home.  After they have completed reading a book they will take a comprehension test on the computer and receive points that go towards their reading grade.  Reading an AR book is a nightly homework assignment. 

Social Studies:  We will be studying The United States History this year.  Our first unit is on the native peoples of North America.  We will be working on memorizing the 50 states and placing the states on a map.

Choir and Choir Chimes:  These subjects are taught once a week by Mrs. Krause.  There will be a grade given for each class.  Choir Chimes will give your child opportunity to learn note reading and musical terms and they will perform in chapels and a concert in the spring.

Religion:  We will be starting with the Old Testament with the Creation account.  We will be familiarizing ourselves with the books of the Bible and looking up Bible passages.

Language:  The first assignment will be to write a biography to help us get to know each other.

Library:  We will go to the Library on Wednesdays.  Students may check out 3 books at a time.  Books are due back in 2 weeks.  There is also an extensive Library in the classroom and students may check out books from that.
